BURN ME TWICE

"The witch Abigail von Rattenhartz must solve supernatural
cases in the mysterious town of Düstenburg"

"Burn Me Twice" is an exploration and adventure video game with a strong narrative component. The player controls Abigail von Rattenhartz, a noctrorian witch who has been captured by the Inquisition of Saint Lunneria and condemned to die at the stake. However, if she decides to collaborate with the inquisitors to solve the macabre crimes that are taking place in the border town of Düstenburg, her execution will be postponed.

During the development of the game I had an active participation from pre-production to release. In collaboration with other members of the team (Null Reference Studio), I designed and proposed mechanics that would later be implemented.

However, my major responsibilities in the project were the following:

  • Designed the game's narrative and the plot of "Burn Me Twice".
  • Designed the game areas. This involved laying out the districts of Düstenburg and how they connected to each other.
  • Designed the world and its lore to give coherence to the narrative events that take place during the adventure.
  • Wrote all the script of the game, including secondary dialogues and texts.
  • Designed the main and secondary characters that populate Düstenburg.
  • Designed the quests and objectives of the game.
  • Collaborated with the rest of the team testing the game for bugs.

Designing the story of a video game so dependent on narrative turned out to be a great challenge, but I managed to adapt to the difficulties thanks to maintaining good communication with the rest of the team and adopting a flexible and efficient working method.

What I liked the most about working on this project was the enormous freedom my teammates gave me to experiment with many narrative ideas.

There is no one in Düstenburg who wants to spend too much time in the Cursed Slums, especially in times of plague...

Only the most wicked noctrorian witches are said to be capable of performing the complex blood rituals.

Dr. Fausto lends himself to help those affected by the plague.

Abigail makes a deal with Malaab, the Demon of Time, to gain the power to turn back time.

The player can use Abigail's powers to enter the Realm of the Dead and investigate the cases from a new point of view.

After investigating a crime scene, the player must uncover the truth of the case by putting the evidence to the test in a Witch Trial.
